German Federal Ministry chooses IOTA Foundation
As already mentioned, the IOTA Foundation was among the 20 teams, together with ICME Healthcare GmbH, CADUS e.V., DOCYET GmbH, Medicus AI GmbH, Kiron Open Higher Education gGmbH and others, that were selected. The teams will be responsible for the development of a Smart Care Corona Response in Eastern European and African countries. The teams will receive financial support for this. In addition, the selected teams have the following opportunities to turn their ideas into reality:It is time to take the next step: Bringing your ideas to reality! As a selected team we will connect you to an experienced coach who will guide through the hackathon’s working sessions. Additionally, you will provide you with support from interdisciplinary experts coming from our broad partner network.
The initiative to find a digital solution to alleviate the coronavirus crisis, the Smart Development Hack took place on 14 and 15 May. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) under the motto “let’s hack the coronavirus”, more than 150 institutions and teams took part in the event. A total of more than 1,000 solutions were submitted.
According to the official publication, the event aimed to find digital solutions to mitigate the effects of COVID-19, especially in low and middle income countries. In addition to the support of the BMZ, the event was supported by partners from “Team Europe”, the European Commission, EU member states, companies and civil society, as stated in a BMZ publication:Our goal is to build on existing digital solutions and to refine and scale them with partners – across countries and sectors. The Hackathon is intended to adapt proven solutions locally and to promote innovations that provide digital help directly on the spot.
